New Website Design2017-04-13T21:49:24-04:002017-04-13T21:49:24-04:00http://localhost:4000/2017/04/13/new-website-design
It’s time for a much needed spring cleaning around the studio. I just deleted 1.1GB of cruft from all the previous incarnations of the site, and replaced it all with this spiffy new site implemented in Jekyll.

Jekyll lets you use plain text to easily create static sites and blogs. As with the Geekido Music jukebox all processing happens on the browser.

The styling is still a bit basic for now. We’re working on that.

Also look for a backfill on all the various things we’ve been up to since last October - so many we haven’t had time to update the site!
We've implemented a new site design using Jekyll.Visual Novel: Lost Before Darkness2017-03-31T22:48:00-04:002017-03-31T22:48:00-04:00http://localhost:4000/2017/03/31/lost-before-darkness
Geekido Studio is pleased to announce the release of it’s first virtual novel (really more like a virtual short story), Lost Before Darkness, created for NaNoRenO 2017 in just one week.

Download Lost Before Darkness and it’s companion soundtrack for free at itch.io.
Geekido Studio releases its first visual novel, *Lost Before Darkness*.Girl Power! STEM Event2017-03-12T17:00:00-04:002017-03-12T17:00:00-04:00http://localhost:4000/2017/03/12/girl-power
Geekido Studio’s Chrooke and Jewels and junior geeks Elizabelle and Rosekiss demonstrated fun projects with microcontrollers at the Girl Power! STEM event.

While the main focus of the event was introducing middle and high school aged girls to the variety of STEM professions, the event was open to the public, and drew many families.

We demonstrated our Animator and G-CHAP, Adafruit’s Circuit Playground, and a Bluetooth LE controlled robot built from an Adafruit kit. We also put together a demonstration of wearable electronics, to show kids how they could control LED sequin intensity and RGB LED colors using a microcontroller and accelerometer sewed into clothing.
Geekido Studio projects appear at the Girl Power STEM event.Geekido Chiptune Album Player2017-02-25T21:35:00-05:002017-02-25T21:35:00-05:00http://localhost:4000/2017/02/25/gchap
We have completed the 2017 RPM Challenge with our Geekido Chiptune Album Player, or G-CHAP.

The G-CHAP features two Arduino Uno boards, one to generate the music, one to run the visualizer. (Technical reasons prevent performing both these tasks with the same processor, for the types of LEDs in the matrix we used.)

An SD card shield lets us read the album and song data off of an SD card. An SD card with files in the correct format becomes the “album”.

The user interface is - none. You plug it in, it starts playing the album, each song in order.

Complete with a hand-crafted, spray painted, craft stick case, because we ran out of time to do a 3D printed case for this project.

In Awesome Detector mode it constantly scans in front of you, and picks up on the awesome, alerting if the person you’re talking to has sufficient awesomeness.

In Animator mode it plays random animations. It changes to a new animation with a random transition every 30 seconds.

If you want to check it out, click on over to our Geekido Music Jukebox Player.

Our jukebox is a custom creation (and, as with everything, it seems, a work in progress). We build it using our “autobandsite” generator. All we need to do is dump all our MP3 files (with ID3 metadata) into a file and run a script. The script generates a static site using all the metadata to generate the playlists and links. No server-side processing!

At some point the jukebox will probably move over to this web site.
Use our jukebox to check out all the music we write at Geekido Studio.Welcome to Geekido Studio!2016-09-15T16:39:00-04:002016-09-15T16:39:00-04:00http://localhost:4000/2016/09/15/welcome-to-geekido-studio
Geekido Studio champions the ability of everyone to create.
We create in a variety of media – we refuse to be bounded! Here you might find a song we composed, or a pencil drawing. Or you might find code for a computer program, or a description of a micro controller project. Or maybe an tasty cake or brownie recipe. Who knows?

We hope to inspire YOU to make your own creations, and we’ll pass on some tips to help you out.
